McHappy Day

PPR has managed media relations and project coordination for McHappy Day on behalf of McDonald’s Australia for the last 20 years McHappy Day is one of Australia’s largest and longest running charity fundraising events and in 2009 PPR helped take the event to the next level by raising more than $2.4 million, an Australian record for McHappy Day.

PPR managed all NSW/WA and national outreaches, with more than 500 media clippings for the campaign, including David and Kim, The Morning Show, Sunrise, Sunday Telegraph, Best Weekend supplement, 2UE, VEGA FM.

PPR approached, secured and managed relationships with national ambassadors Kylie Gilles (The Morning Show), Rachael Finch (Celebrity Masterchef), Michael Slater (former Australian cricketer) and Dr. Chris Brown (Bondi Vet), and coordinated more than 1,000 celebrity and volunteer visits to McDonald’s restaurants across Australia.

A major component of the program was the overhaul of all internal communications materials for McHappy Day Event Managers, which led to greater engagement by McDonald’s staff in the months leading up to McHappy Day and on the day itself. The creation of a private McHappy Day Facebook community allowed event managers to share ideas and best practices while receiving timely updates from both PPR and McDonald’s headquarters.
